ワルキューレの絵

Picture of Valkyrie

1899年のフランスの面白いポスターがある。

ワルキューレが胸をはだけて鋼のビスチエとミニスカートを身に纏い、

膝上までのブーツをはいて、自転車を従えて髪をなびかせている。

ロードレーサーの広告なのだ。

「ワグナーとフランス」という1800年代から1900年代にフランスで描かれた

ワグナー関係の挿絵集で、ワルキューレ達は大活躍している。

翼のついたヘルメットをかぶり、楯と槍を持った美女たちは、

甲冑どころか胸も露なジャン・ポール・ゴルチエみたいなドレス

（うーん、さすがフレンチ！）をきりりと纏って、

全裸のラインの乙女たちよりフランス人好きしたかもしれない。

絵はどれも服装にうるさいフランス人が、これならよし。と

言ったに違いないかっこよさ。

ワグナーはパリのオペラ座でひどい目に会って、パリを恨んでいたと

時々解説書に書かれているけれど、

ワルキューレは斜に構えるフランス人にも楽しかったのだろう。

タイムマシーンに乗って、観に行きたい。

An interesting poster of France in 1899.

Valkyrie bares her chest, wears the iron bustier and miniskirt, has 

the boots over her knees on, and streams her red hair towing a bicycle.

I have in hand a book "Wagner et la France" (Paris, 1983)

which collects the illustrations related with Wagner published 

from the 1800s to the 1900s.

There Valkyries flourish very much.

The beauties wearing the helmet with wings and holding the spear 

and shield are dressed handsomely in the figure laid the chest open,

as designed by Jean Paul Gaultier (oh, truly French!).

They might be preferred to naked Rhinemaiden by the French men.

The objects in every picture are so sharply that even the Frenchmen 

who are choosy about dresses might have appreciated highly enough.

It is told in most books that Wagner had a terrible experience at 

the opera Theatre in Paris, so bore a grudge against Paris.

But to the French who tend to step back 

not a little Valkyries might have been pleasant.

I'd like to go to see it by a time machine.
